Match report SECONDS MAKE IT EASY

Tynedale 2nd XI make it two wins out of two on Saturday as they defeated Newcastle City.

Winning the toss Graeme Fox elected to bat first with the reliable Paul Scandle and Iain Riccalton opening up.

The wicket was extremely slow with uneven bounce not at all desirable for batting. Despite this both batsmen made steady progress choosing the right ball to hit at the right times.

The run rate was at five an over in the 16th when Paul Scandle played an uncharacteristic shot across the line that had him bowled for 31.

Iain Riccalton was unable to replicate his innings of the previous week and he was caught as the ball kicked up of a length for 26.

Edwin Bell joined James Rain ford and the pair kept the run rate up, Rainford being the more aggressive. He survived a drop catch but was to go shortly after with the score on 100.

Graeme Riccalton came to the crease and as ever scored quickly. His first scoring shot was a six followed by two consecutive fours.

Singh was extracting a lot of turn but the experienced Bell was getting to the pitch of the ball and was scoring in boundarys rather than singles and twos.

Bell eventually went to ripper of a ball by singh bowling him for 30.

Fox joined Riccalton and the two played well using their experience nicking singles and pushing three runs putting pressure on the City fielders.

The two remained unbeaten at the end of the innings with Riccalton hitting his first half century of the season finishing with 64. Fox chalked up an impressive 39.

Hew Twizell and Alex Thompson opened up the bowling and gave evidence that Tynedale Cricket Club have a rich talent of fast bowling.

The two complement each other with Twizell skidding the ball through while Thompson extracts bounce with his extra height.

Both bowled extremely well heeping pressure on the City batsmen. Thompson then produced a Steve Harmison like delivery with pace and bounce. Ahmed could only force it off but the ball hit jumped up to Graeme Ricalton at gully to take an easy catch.

With the City batsmen under pressure Fox changed tactics and introduced his off spin and Ally Stobbs’ leg sin.

Fox immediately struck claiming two wickets in two balls.

At the other end Stobbs was bowling on a length wher the batsmen were uncertain whether to come forward or go back. This led to Stobbs claiming three wickets in a very impressive spell of leg spin bowling.

Fox claimed a further three wickets which eventually killed of any little chance City had of winning.
