Match report RICCALTON BLASTS 164

Tynedale CC 2nd team produced a match winning performance against Burnopfield at Priors Flat last Saturday which included an awe inspiring knock by Iain Riccalton as he recorded his highest score of 164 not out.

Asked to bat first on a bowler friendly wicket, Tynedale opened up with Iain Riccalton and Paul Scandle.

Both players made their intentions clear being aggressive with any wayward bowling and soon had the run rate up at six an over.

With the score on 67 Paul Scandle flashed at a wide one and was caught at slip. Graeme Riccalton joined his brother and the pair consolidated after the loss of Scandle.

Iain was the more aggressive of the two finding the gaps regularly for boundries and brought his 50 up in no time. Such was his timing that he made the wicket look like a batters delight.

He reached his ton with an elegant drive over mid off and this was a sign of things to come.

Graeme fell soon after holing out to deep mid off for 38 and the score on 170.

James Rainford entered but he soon fell playing aggressively. Graeme Fox joined Iain but was merely a passenger as Iain devoured any ball that was off line. He cut into the bowling with boundary after boundary and such was the ferocity of his batting he put on 40 in 5 overs.

At the end of the innings Iain remained unbeaten on 164 with the team making 245 for the loss of 3.

With a seemingly impossible task Burnopfield started with intentions of having a go at the Tynedale total.

Joe Mills making his debut was quick of the mark and took his first wicket in his second over and then followed it up taking a second in his fourth. At the other end Hew Twizell was working away and bowled well without much luck.

Graeme Fox entered the attack and struck early but Burnopfield were still up with the run rate.

Ross Keady replaced Thompson and claimed the wicket of Lovell caught well in the covers by scandle.

Mills and Twizell re-entered the attack.

Michael Small was troubling the home team and keeping up the momentum hitting the now wayward Twizell for a number of boundries.

Fortunately Mills bowled tightly at the other end and heaped the pressure on Burnopfield to attack Twizell.

Twizell was up to the task and picked up three quick wickets finishing off any hope Burnopfield had of winning the game.

Tynedale 245-3 (I Riccalton 164, G Riccalton 38)

Burnopfield 195-8 (Twizell 4-56, Mills 2-55)
