Ashington v Tynedale Cricket Club 1st Team on Sat 12 May 2007 at
Tynedale Cricket Club Won by nine wickets

Match report Tynedale 1st X1 v Ashington

Tynedale went on their travels to the north of the county at the weekend hoping to dodge the rain that scattered the region last weekend. In a game that almost fell victim to the weather it was eventually reduced to a thirty over game where the visitors won an important toss and elected to have a bowl on a wet, green wicket.
There was a time not too long ago when these two teams were at loggerheads for honours however Ashington have lost a few key players, including Simon Prudhoe too Tynedale, and it is unlikely they will be challenging this term. That said they still have a number of very useful players including their captain and opening bat Neil Wood.
So Tynedale were delighted when Darling had Wood caught with his first delivery of the day, smartly caught by Prudhoe.
At the other end professional Stuart Graham produced a wonderfully accurate and economical spell of bowling that restricted a rather lacklustre batting effort from the home team. Considering the game was reduced in length too many batsmen were negative, almost resigned to the fact that runs were not easy to come by.
However Tynedale had to wait until the 10th over for the next wicket which was picked up by Henry Twizell in his first over. He added another in his third which reduced the visitors to 29-3.
Darling changed ends and bowled a much better second spell in tandem with Twizell that included three more wickets to take his tally to four and left Ashington 40-6.
Toward the end of the innings Ashington tried to attack and managed some success against Scot Kay as they almost doubled their score by the end of the thirtieth over finishing on 86-7.
In reply Tynedale made light work of a very low total to chase. Scot Kay produced his must fluent performance of the season to date, showing flashes of class that makes batting look so easy until he miss timed a shot and was caught for 28. At the other end Neil Clark was in fine form and stroked 38 not out in the chase. He was joined by Gary Pratt for a short time as the pair made quick work of the chase leaving Tynedale easy nine wicket winners with more than fifteen over’s to spare.
Ashington 86-7 (Darling 4-19, Twizell 2-9)
Tynedale 89-1 (Clark 38 not out)
